ROAMING THE COUNTRY
To wander in your country
is a birthright*
To travel and see the world
is a birthright*
It don't matter
whether you ramble
whether you pedal
or you're just nomadic

So tell me, why so many obstacles?
The land is covered by
fences and barbed wire,
no entry signs all around,
signs saying PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT
angry farmers unwilling to listen
police brutal without compassion
stray from signposts at your peril
fewer and fewer willing to share their jewel

So tell me, How can you own something
that belongs to all?
Where is the freedom that you all speak of?.....

*As a subject of STATE this is not so but as a HUMAN BEING it is undeniable.

This was written after going on a cycle with a friend in the countryside, losing our way and getting chased off by a farmer. Despite the fact that we were polite and only seeking directions. For many others, confrontations are much more heavy handed.
